Do you smell the salt air and the rust on your door?
If you do, you're probably one of the many Taylor Swift fans who consider August 1 a holiday. When Swift released "August" three years ago, she incidentally devoted an entire month to yearning. The first of the month marks the unofficial start of the season for "living for the hope of it all." The Folkloretrack describes the haunting end of a one-sided summer romance and contains some of Swift's most quotable lyrics.
SEE ALSO: Every surprise song Taylor Swift has performed on 'The Eras Tour' (so far)Aside from listening to the song on repeat, drinking wine, and longing for summer love, Swifties ring in August 1 by posting incessantly about the song. It's truly a feat how many memes can be derived from the source material. One meme posted on Twitter reads, "people who celebrate August 1st are annoying pass it on, FUCK this post and happy salt air and the rust on your door." Another says, "get in loser, we're living for the hope of it all."

One tweet makes a profound observation: "for some people, today is national girlfriend day, for others it is august by taylor swift. never both." Swift herself even tweeted, "get in the car it's august."

Over on TikTok fans are posting all sorts of videos soundtracked by the song. In one, @shaynasversion salts the air to welcome the month. Others use an audio that says, "please rise for our national anthem" and then "August" starts playing.
Before August slips away into a moment in time, follow the Swifties' lead, and set aside time to listen to the song in celebration.
