BYD on Tuesday launched its first – and for now the only – car model equipped with Huawei’s advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) at a price range of between RMB 379,800 and RMB 407,800 ($52,602-$56,480), marking the first collaboration of its kind between the two corporate giants. The companies said that Huawei’s latest Advanced Driving System (ADS) would enable the Bao 8 sports utility vehicle to carry out most driving functions automatically from garage to garage and could even allow it to drive through some toll gates by itself across Chinese cities and provinces. The plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, also the second model under BYD’s Fangchengbao off-road marque, has an EV-only range of 100 kilometers (62 miles) and can travel 1,200 km on a full tank and full charge. Year-to-date sales volume of the Bao 5 reached 36,449 units as of October, and BYD cut the starter price of the off-road vehicle by 17.3% to RMB 239,800 in July about a year after its launch in August 2023.
