For all of you who've been holding your breath this past month, it's finally time to exhale: On Tuesday, Google rolled out some of the hotly anticipated new Maps features the company announced in May.
And by "rolled out," we mean "some people got them but a lot of people didn't." And by "hotly anticipated," we mean, um, "lists of trending restaurants generated by a Google algorithm."
SEE ALSO: 25 WTF moments caught on Google Street View"Indulge your inner foodie on Android by automatically keeping track of your progress against any of the restaurants featured in the trending lists," Google explained in a blog post. "So if you’re on a mission to try the 10 best tacos in your area and you’ve only tried 5, Google Maps will note that for you so you can get to the tacos pronto."
Man, what can'tGoogle do.
According to the super specific blog post, "many" of the following features "start rolling out worldwide today."
A redesigned Explore tab
Trending lists curated by "experts" and "Google’s algorithms" to help you find the best places to eat
The aforementioned taco tracker
An Explore tab that "surfaces the top events and activities happening in your area"
A numeric rating that tells you how likely you are to enjoy a place based on your own preferences"
The option to "[follow] a neighborhood" and learn what new bars or cafes have opened there
Android Police reported on some additional features, like the new so-called "Material Theme," but notes that their publication has "only received one tip of it too, which makes [them] think it's quite limited in terms of rollout."
So hurry up and tap your way to Google Play to update Google Maps now. Then, as Google suggests, "Share your favorite list of restaurants with us on Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #OnGoogleMaps" — all the cool kids are doing it. Or at least the ones who got the rollout.
