Donald Trump has once again hit a new low on Twitter.
In June, the president was criticized for his racist tweets against Congresswomen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, and Ayanna Pressley. Now, Trump has come under fire for attacking Maryland Congressional Rep. Elijah Cummings on Twitter.
On Friday morning, after reports that someone attempted to break into Rep. Cummings' home, Trump tweeted, "Really bad news! The Baltimore house of Elijah Cummings was robbed. Too bad!"

In true Trump fashion, the tweet read as very sarcastic, and made it seem as though his intention was to gloat about the fact that Cummings was faced with an intruder.
Nearly a week ago, on July 27, Trump began criticizing both Cummings and his district of Baltimore on Twitter after Cummings disapproved of the work at the border.
Trump claimed that Rep. Cummings' district is "a disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess," and that the conditions there are "FAR WORSE and more dangerous" than those at the southern border.

Since then, he's shared more than 10 other original tweets and retweets attacking the Baltimore representative and his district, even going so far as to call him"racist." So when Trump tweeted today about the attempted break-in at Cummings' home, it was not at all perceived as sincere.
Shortly after Trump's tweet, 2020 candidate Beto O'Rourke responded by adding, "America is so much better than this — but it's on all of us to prove it."

And many other Twitter users, including John Legend and California Congressional Representative Ted Lieu, made an effort to publicly condemn the president's apparent mocking of Cummings' situation.

Even Nikki Haley, Trump's former U.S. Ambassador to the UN called it "unnecessary."

Post-Trump tweet, Cummings released a statement confirming that someone had attempted to break into his house on Saturday, July 27, but he was notified by his security system and "scared the intruder away by yelling before the person gained entry into the residential portion of the house."

It should be noted that in March 2017, Trump tweeted that he'd met with Cummings at the White House and the two had a "Great discussion!"
But after Cummings made his disapproval of the conditions at the border known, Trump decided to repeatedly insult him and show absolutely no concern for the attempted break-in at his house.
Nice to have someone so empathetic and emotionally stable and in the White House, isn't it?
