Huawei will be upgrading its smartphones with a technology called GPU Turbo, which should significantly increase graphics performance while consuming far less energy, the company announced on Monday.
GPU Turbo will come as part of an update to Huawei's EMUI software, which runs on top of Android, and it will start rolling out in August 2018.
SEE ALSO: Honor 7C is here to become the king of the budget bracketAccording to Huawei, GPU Turbo will improve graphics processing efficiency by up to 60 percent, while lowering power consumption by 30 percent.
The first phones to get the upgrade will be Huawei's flagships, the Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, Mate RS, the P20, and the P20 Pro. Other devices will follow from September to November. Most phones will get the upgrade in all markets, but some will only be upgraded in the EMEA, Russia, and Asia Pacific region. Check out the table below for a full schedule.
Initially, GPU Turbo will support two games: PUBG Mobileand Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, with support for more titles coming at a later date. However, Huawei claims the update is about more than gaming; it should boost the performance of the EMUI user interface, as well as make AR and VR apps run more smoothly.
GPU Turbo, originally announced as an update for Huawei's Honor line of devices in June, goes beyond your typical software upgrade and promises very significant benefits. We'll see whether it lives up to the promise when it launches in August.
